Shaving may be the go-to for many, but at Platinum Medical Spa, we think it’s time to ditch the razor and give waxing a try.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of soft, smooth skin. But when it comes to hair removal, what’s the best way to achieve that glow? Shaving may be the go-to for many, but at Platinum Medical Spa, we think it’s time to ditch the razor and give waxing a try.

Waxing has become a go-to option for those looking to simplify their routine and see longer-lasting results. It’s also one of the most requested services at our spa for good reason. It leaves skin feeling smoother, softer, and more refined than shaving ever could.

Why Wax?

Waxing is a semi-permanent method of hair removal that removes hair directly from the root. That means you’ll stay smoother for longer with no stubble in sight. While shaving only cuts the hair at the surface of the skin, waxing takes it a step further, helping your skin look and feel its best.

Waxing is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to keep skin smoother for longer. Over time, it can even lead to finer, softer regrowth.

What Areas Can I Wax?

We provide professional waxing services for nearly every area, including brows, legs, underarms, and delicate areas of the face like the lip and chin. These treatments are among our most requested and are performed with care to ensure your skin feels smooth, clean, and cared for.

Our providers are trained to keep the process as comfortable as possible while delivering smooth, long-lasting results. Not sure what type of wax you need? We’ll help you find the right service based on your hair type, skin sensitivity, and goals.

Common Waxing Concerns

    Is waxing painful?

Waxing can cause temporary discomfort, especially your first time, but most people find it manageable. Areas with more nerve endings (like the bikini line) may feel more sensitive, while spots like legs or arms are often easier. Over time, regular waxing tends to get easier as hair grows back finer.

How long should hair be before a wax?

We recommend at least ¼ inch of growth (about the length of a grain of rice). This allows the wax to grip the hair more effectively. Avoid trimming too close before your appointment.

Can I wax if I have sensitive skin?

Yes! Many people with sensitive skin can still wax safely. At Platinum Medical Spa, we use high-quality, gentle waxes formulated for delicate skin. If you're prone to irritation, we recommend avoiding exfoliants, retinoids, or active skincare ingredients for 48 hours before and after your appointment. Post-wax, use soothing lotions and avoid heat, tight clothing, or friction to minimize redness.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

For best results, come in with clean, product-free skin. Avoid sun exposure, exfoliating acids, or retinoids for at least 24–48 hours prior. If you're concerned about discomfort, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever an hour before your visit.

What should I avoid after waxing?

•	Hot showers, saunas, and sweating for 24 hours
•	Direct sun exposure or tanning
•	Tight clothing that may cause irritation
•	Heavy lotions or exfoliants on the treated area

Whether you had a traditional facial, or splurged on a microdermabrasion, skin brightening or spot treatment, you’ll want to maintain your results as long as possible.

After your treatment, our team will provide after-care instructions to promote fast healing and maintain your glowing results. Healthy skin needs continual care. If you don’t protect your skin, signs of aging such as lines, dark spots, and wrinkles may come back prematurely after sun exposure.

The Risks of the Summer Sun

Now that summer is here, we know you’re feeling ready to show some skin! As experts in all things skincare, our team at Platinum Medical Spa wants you to safely enjoy the sun while maintaining your glow. Not only does sun exposure damage your skin with cancer-causing UV rays, but it can also diminish or reverse the results of your professional skin treatment and skin care regimen.

The sun’s UV rays can cause premature fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration and uneven skin tone, and burns. You spent time and money on your treatments; protect your investment by following some simple guidelines recommended by our professionals.

    Treatments Most At Risk

Everyone knows that the sun can damage your skin by causing mild to severe sunburns. Did you know it can also have a negative impact on your professional skin treatments? “Facials, chemical peels and microneedling are most affected by sun exposure,” says Brooke Ibeling, ARNP. “However, you should stay out of the sun for 2-7 days following all procedures while your skin heals.” The more sun exposure there is, the more you will see these signs of aging.

    Post-Treatment Care

Exfoliation and resurfacing treatments that strip away the outermost layer of your epidermis make your skin especially sensitive as new, delicate skin cells surface. While you should always take steps daily to protect your skin, it’s crucial you take extra care following any skin treatments. We will review specific post-procedural care with you at the time of your treatment to maintain your results.

Protect Your Skin With These Tips

Here are our tips to avoid damaging your skin following a skin treatment:

Avoid the sun at peak hours: The sun’s rays are most intense between 10 am and 4 pm. It is best to avoid prolonged sun exposure during that time.

Sunscreen - You’ve heard it before, and we’ll say it again: Use sunscreen often! Brooke emphasizes, “The SPF in your makeup is not enough coverage to protect your face!” We recommend at least SPF 30 or higher. Be sure to apply at least 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every two hours. Don’t forget about your lips! Choose a lip balm that has SPF and reapply often. Consider a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, both of which create a barrier on the skin. We recommend a professional or medical grade sunscreen designed for the face.

How to Apply Sunscreen: Use a lotion or cream SPF instead of an aerosol to minimize streaking or missed areas. Use a dime-size amount on the face and neck, making sure to cover frequently forgotten areas: the ears, eyelids, and hairline. Remember that coverage is more important than a specific brand.

Hats/Sunglasses – Keep a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses with you – keep a set in your car, in your office, and at home, so that you’ll always have protection handy. Some hats and clothing have UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) that can add extra layer of defense. Use sunscreen also!

Long Sleeves/Pants – When the UV rays are especially intense, consider investing in some lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and pants. Some have UPF in the fabric.

Umbrella – Treat yourself to a fun summer sun umbrella to use when you’re socializing outside.

Other Skin Care Products - Are you using other skin care products? Some skin care products are more likely to cause sun sensitivity and are better used at night to prevent reactions. Be aware of these products and adjust your time in the sun and sunscreen accordingly.

Medications - Some medications make you more sensitive to the sun. Ask your pharmacist, health care provider, or our team at Platinum Medical Spa if your medications are putting you at risk for sunburns and premature signs of aging
