Biography
Dr. Dominic A. Formaro Jr., D.O., FACOS, FACS, is a board-certified General Surgeon in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He completed his medical education at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 and his General Surgery residency at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in 2010. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology, earned cum laude from Drake University.
With over 15 years of surgical experience, Dr. Formaro specializes in minimally invasive, robotic, and abdominal surgery, including hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, and general gastrointestinal procedures. He is also proficient in breast care (benign/malignant), soft tissue, colorectal procedures, and hiatal hernia repair. He is also a Surgical Proctor for Intuitive Surgical, providing training and mentorship on the Da Vinci robotic platforms.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Formaro has served in academic roles at Des Moines University as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Clinical preceptor for medical students, and Course Director, focusing on surgical education and simulation. His scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications such as "A Rare Case of Spontaneous Idiopathic Pneumoperitoneum Presenting as Abdominal Pain" in Cureus.
